It Has Been A Year

2016 hasn’t turned out the way we’ve dreamed,
Yet the year hasn’t gone completely unredeemed.
Bookended by cold, and friends, and snow,
If you were to look back, there’s plenty good to show.
It has been a year of travel, where you’ve ventured all around.
So many grand, and lovely impressions—if we exclude Cowtown.
It has been a year of love, where friends and family thrived.
The world became a brighter place the day Marlee arrived.
It has been a year of stewardship, where you’re ready if they call.
Side conversation, cycle the key, take a knee, and that’s all!
It has been a year of politics, where gray hair comes from strife,
But there’s no reason we despair ‘cause there’s so much more to life.
It has been a year of friendship with bonds we could proclaim.
Yes, a year of friendship—even if McCoy doesn’t know my name…
It has been a year of mechanics—working on a leaky carburetor,
But that may be a bad example because they’ll just start leaking later.
I must confess they cause me stress as I obsess that they’ll regress,
But I digress…
It has been a year of construction—showing off your power.
You gave your time, your blood, your sweat and tears to build an outdoor shower.
It has been a year of surprises, where people get what they like.
The team pulling together to gift Val a new bike.
It has been a year of laughter, where snickers turn to giggles turn to snorts.
It has been a year of wonder that no one in no way could ever thwart.
It has been a year of so many things—too many for my list—
But this year is not yet over so this is my Christmas wish:
May you receive more blessings and more goodness from God above.
May he shower you and your family and friends with His divine love.
Continue being a beacon, a city on the hill, shining bright,
And we’ll continue to do our best to gleam our glitzy light.
As you continue blazing a trail through life’s danger zone,
Forever bear in mind that you’ll never travel alone.
Although this poem may be strange and a bit silly,
Remember, Sacajawea is like the Olive Garden—
When you’re here, you’re family!
